Throughout the life of a SharePoint installation, there will be upgrades via service packs, etc. So, if you’re running into problems from one server to another, you might want to make sure the version numbers are the same on each.
In SharePoint 2010, to find the exact version number, just go to your Central Admin for the farm. Click on System Settings, and then, under ‘Servers’, click ‘Manage servers in this farm’. Among othere things, here you will find the ‘Configuration database version’.
