SharePoint 2010 Tips
If you have a document library into which you have uploaded PDF files, you might have noticed that you don’t see an icon representing the file type. It’s fairly easy to remedy this following the instructions below.
- Go to the Template/Images folder in your SharePoint root (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\Template\Images)
- Copy a PDF icon there.
- Find the ‘Docicon.xml’ file in the Template\xml folder of the SharePoint root (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\Template\xml)
- In the ‘ByExtension’ node, add a new Mapping tag (needs to be in alphabetical order) like the following
<Mapping Key="pdf" Value="pdficon.gif" />
- Restart IIS
Your icons should now show up in your document libraries.
