Many times, you have a column name that takes up too much room when it shows as the header, based on the content. For instance, if your column name is ‘Percent Complete’, this takes up many more characters than the 3 characters needed in the content. Therefore, you’d like to change it to ‘% Comp’. There is a very easy way to do this, though it’s not too self-evident, when editing the library settings.
Open your site in SharePoint Designer, and then open the Library View you need to change. In the ‘Views’ section (on the right side of your screen), click on the view you need to change. Click on the column header (if needed, right click and choose ‘Zoom to Contents’). Change the header to reflect your needs and then save your changes.
That’s all there is to it – it’s done.
